Flag of Spain

Celebrated for its beaches, food, music, dance and devotion to living life to the full, Spain is one of the world's most exuberant countries. From partying till dawn on the Balearic island of Ibiza to enjoying traditional Flamenco in Seville or experiencing the very unique spectacle of a Spanish street carnival, there is much more to this country than just the costas. Southern Spain's year-round mild climate makes its beaches an obvious selling point, but its cities have plenty to offer, too. Madridleños are a breed unto themselves, making the capital of Spain an intoxicating place to visit - take in the sights by day and hit Madrid's tapas and flamenco bars at night, some of the best in Spain. Barcelona rivals Madrid in the glamour stakes, but it beats the capital for architecture, boasting a style all of its own in the fanciful creations of Antoni Gaudí. Laid-back and fiercely proud of its Catalan heritage, Barcelona is fun-loving and unique. Seville, Malaga, Granada and Valencia - all in the south - abound with orange tree-filled plazas, white-washed town houses and a strong Moorish influence, seen best in Granada's splendid Alhambra palace and Seville's Giralda.

Spain's coastline and islands offer something to suit all tastes, from family holidays to well established resorts along the Costa del Sol, Majorca and the Canaries to the subdued charms of quite corners of Menorca and the Costa Brava as well as the clubbing and sunshine combination which has made Ibiza one of Spain's premier destinations.
