Food & Drink

Local Venezuelan specialities include:

  • abellon criollo (a hash made with shredded meat and served with fried plantains and black beans on rice)
  • parrilla criolla (marinated and grilled beef)
  • hervido (soup made with beef, chicken or fish and vegetables)
  • chipi chipi soup (made from tiny clams)
  • empanadas (meat pastries)

Local wine is not that good, but foreign wines are bottled locally. Mineral water, beer and gin is good, rum is excellent. Merengada consists of fruit pulp, ice, milk and sugar, while batido has water and no milk: both are recommended.
