Etiquette & Culture

People on the coast are more relaxed than in the city.

If greeting a group introduce yourself to the eldest person first. Shake hands while maintaining eye contact and say Buenos dias (Good morning), Buenas tardes (Good afternoon) or Buenas noches (Good evening) and wait for a reply.

Jackets and ties are generaily worn to restaurants and social functions. A service charge of 10% is included in the bill at restaurants.

If invited for dinner, send flowers, particularly orchids, prior to the event.
