Food & Drink

Traditional Tajikistani meals start with sweet dishes like halva and tea, followed by soups such as shorpur (made of meat and vegetables) and then a main dish of ploy, a Central Asian staple of mutton, shredded yellow turnip and rice. Shashlyk (charcoal grilled mutton) served with lipioshka (unleavened bread) is also common.

Chai (tea) is most popular, as are alcoholic drinks, including sparkling wine, or sharnpanski.
