Flag of Chile

The Republic of Chile is a country in South America that occupies a long coastal strip between the Andes mountains and the Pacific Ocean. It is bordered by Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east and the Cape Horn to the south.

It is thought that the name 'Chile' may derive its name from the indigenous Mapuche word 'chilli', which may mean 'where the land ends' or 'the deepest point of the Earth,' or from the Aymara 'tchili' meaning 'snow'.

From salty-desert top to glacier-crowded bottom, Chile is an amazing reminder of nature's beauty and power. This narrow trickle of a country is jammed with enough geysers, mountains, beaches, forests and volcanoes to keep adventure fans happy for a lifetime.
