Although many tourists visit Zambia every year and the majority of visits are trouble free, car hijackings and armed robberies are on the increase.
It is not currently advisable to travel to the rural parts of the North Western, Copperbelt, Central and Luapula provinces that are close to the border areas with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), particularly after dark, unless absolutely essential. Visitors should also be aware of landmines in this area, and on the borders with Angola and Mozambique.
Adventure sports, such as those on offer in the Victoria Falls area, carry natural risks, and serious accidents and deaths do occasionally occur. Participants should follow operators' safety instructions closely, and should also be aware that the medical care available in such emergencies can vary greatly in quality. You must also make sure that your insurance policy covers any adventure sports you may wish to undertake.
Wild animals in the bush are unpredictable and do kill, and anyone travelling on water or land, is at risk of potentially fatal animal attacks. It is therefore essential to observe local regulations at all times and to follow your tour or safari guide's instructions.
