In general, Koreans are a very friendly people and will often go out of their way to make visitors feel at home, or to help lost souls find their way. It is not unusual to be offered food or drinks in restaurants and bars, sometimes by complete strangers.

Bow slightly when meeting someone for the first time. Shoes should be removed before entering a Korean home. "Annyeong haseyo" is an informal greeting between friends.

Traditional costume, or hanbok, is worn on holidays and other special occasions.
