Internal Transport
There are some internal flights, mainly linking Panama City to all centres in the interior of the country. However, a scenic 47-mile passenger route from Panama City to Colón is run by the Panamá Canal Railway Company.
Car hire (minimum age 23) is available in city centres and airports; although 4-wheel drive vehicles are available, it is best to book them in advance as they are very popular. The Panamanian road system is fairly good; the Trans-Isthmian Highway links Panama City and Colon.
There are bus services between most large towns, but they can be very slow. There are also extensive bus and minibus services within Panama City; these run on a flat fare basis, with coin-operated turnstiles at bus entrances.
Taxis are not metered, and fares, although generally fairly low, should always be agreed in advance. Drivers do not expect tips.
