Best Times to Visit

Weather

The weather in Luxembourg is warm from May to September. Winters can be severe and snow likely. The north (the Ardennes region) tends to be colder and wetter than the south. In the sheltered Mosel Valley, summers and autumns are warm enough for cultivation of vines.

Visitors are advised to bring waterproofs all year-round.

A more detailed look at the weather may be found in Climate in Luxembourg.

Festivals

Fireworks are set off in Luxembourg City on 22 June, as the country celebrates its National Day festivities. Bars and restaurants stay open into the early hours. On 23 June, a torchlight parade wends its way through the city streets. Luxembourg City also hosts a series of outdoors summer concerts and other events, as part of its Summer in the City. One of the highlights of this series of events is the Rock un Knuedler, a one-day rock festival in early July. In August-September, the capital welcomes the Schuerberfouer, one of the largest funfairs in Europe. The town of Echternach is known for its religious dancing procession, which takes place annually on Whit Tuesday, drawing pilgrims from around the world.
