Internal Transport

There are a limited number of internal flights available, connecting N'Djaména to Maundou, Sarh and Mao. Cash payments are usually required.

Many roads need urgent repairs, and travelling outside N'Djamena is only possible with 4-wheeldrives and permits from the Ministry of the Interior. However, due to security conditions and a lack of food, petrol and vehicle repair facilities, the government has prohibited travel in some parts of the country, especially in the central and northern areas. There are also no emergency services, so drivers should exercise extreme caution. Due to the potential for highway bandits, drivers are advised to travel in convoy, keep doors locked, not travel after dark, and to carry spare fuel and supplies.

N'Djaména itself has an adequate road system and there are limited self-drive and chauffeured car hire facilities. Both taxis and minibuses operate in the city, with a flat fare charged. A 10% tip is expected by taxi drivers.
