Internal Transport

Although there are no domestic airline routes within Bhutan, Druk Air operates an hour-long scenic mountain flight that offers visitors magnificent views of the mountains, waterfalls and lakes.

There is no rail service, but the country has a fairly good internal road network with 3,100 km of surfaced road. The main routes run east?west, across the Pele La Pass linking the valleys of the eastern region and north from Phuentsholing to the western and central regions of Paro and Thimphu. The northern regions of the High Himalayas have no roads. Yaks, mules and ponies are the most common transportation, but buses are also run. The average speed is less than 40kph (25mph).
